Will Stein's 2026-27 Kentucky team is shaping up to be an SEC sleeper and, as far as first-year rosters go, a group capable of swinging at will in the nation's toughest conference. I, for one, am a Kenny Minchey truther.
But it's the head coach's 2027-28 class that's really begun turning heads. Led by No. 2 overall recruit Jake Nawrot under center, Stein has loudly put together one of the country's fastest turnarounds in his takeover of Kentucky Football. And now, we've got even more news on that front.
Per Hayes Fawcett on X, four-star, in-state defensive lineman Malachi Brown has committed to Kentucky. As was noted by Fawcett, the 6-foot-3 stud lineman went with the blue and white over Louisville, Tennessee, and Purdue.
Louisville, of course, is the biggest miss there, given Brown's in-state status and the nature of recruiting battles in the bluegrass. Mark Pope lockered Pat Kelsey last week in the recruitment of Milan Momcilovic, and now, Will Stein took Jeff Brohm to task when it comes to Brown.
The Stein train keeps on rollin.' Hop on or be left behind.
Malachi Brown Goes With Kentucky
When it comes to Louisville in this recruitment specifically, they may have even been behind the other out-of-state suitors on the list. Both Tennessee and Purdue had visits scheduled, at least; the Cardinals can't say the same. Oh well.

For Stein, it's yet another strong addition to the side of the defensive side of the ball. His status as a former offensive coordinator hasn't stopped Stein from dominating the recruiting front overall.
The Wildcats' staff is sharp and well-rounded, and that's evidenced by the knockout class being put together on defense. Brown is a valuable, disruptive piece of that puzzle.
A Disruptive Defensive Piece
The lineman's 275-pound frame makes him a potentially immediate impact piece in the SEC. It's hard to argue against a guy with plug-n-play intangibles like these.
Malachi Brown joins Elijah Brown (four-star) and Griff Galloway (three-star) as Stein's 2027 defensive line commits up to now. It's a youthful crew defined by size and with high upside going into the future. Factor in the aforementioned Nawrot on offense, as well as four-star receiver Iveon Lewis, among others, and you've got a nasty group that's growing by the day.
Kickoff this fall is already the most exciting it's been at Kroger Field in years, but the seasons set to follow feel almost as surefire, if not more so, with Stein behind the wheel. I can't recall the last time that confidence existed within this football program, but it's got to be the best feeling in the world for the Big Blue Nation.
