Four-star Jake Nawrot is the crown jewel of Will Stein's first full recruiting class with Kentucky, set as the No. 2 quarterback nationally in 2027-28. The senior signal caller was recently rated No. 1 in the regional workouts of the Elite 11 camp, and all signs seem to be pointing at his hot streak continuing as the passer develops.
The Elite 11 camp is the nation's premier high school quarterback competition and development event. Looking at the event's stats, nearly 80% of current starting quarterbacks in the NFL participated in the Elite 11 camps at some point during their high school careers. Standouts therein are highly favored for long careers down the road.
These athletes are put through regular drills, play 7-on-7 football, and then have a standard Pro Day sort of workout. Guys like Julian Sayin, Caleb Williams, and C.J. Stroud were all Elite 11 MVPs. And now, Jake Nawrot is doing his part to blaze a trail and try and capture that elusive fifth star.
Nawrot Impresses Off the Bat
Per KSR, On3's Charles Power said that Nawrot, "was a smooth operator on Friday night at the Elite 11 Finals. Similar to what we saw from his regional workout, Nawrot was arguably the most accurate quarterback on hand. Once the drills moved from stationary targets to moving receivers, we really saw Nawrot elevate his game. He did a great job locating his passes, consistently hitting receivers in stride."

In a Will Stein offense, an accurate passer is the key to breaking things open. Look at Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel; both guys completed over 73% of their passes with Stein calling plays at Oregon, and both were eventual Heisman finalists. I'm not saying Nawrot will come in and be a Heisman finalist in his first year, but the path there isn't hard to recognize.
A Future in Elite Hands
And that kind of performance is why Nawrot could become Kentucky's first five-star QB since Morgan Newton under Joker Phillips, all the way back in 2009. Newton didn't work out particularly well for Kentucky, but he also was unlucky enough to have to play under Phillips' fast-to-go regime. Pick your poison there, or (preferably), forget about it entirely.
Let's also not forget that Kentucky signee Matt Ponatoski was also an Elite 11 participant last year, but Ponatoski is currently deciding between Kentucky Football and, interestingly enough, the MLB. The MLB Draft is coming up in July, so we should know more about Ponatoski's decision very soon.
For the time being, until Nawrot ultimately takes over in Lexington, Kenny Minchey will be running the show. And guess what? He was an Elite 11 participant too, winning the Pro Day section of the event back in 2022. Kentucky's future under center seems to be in literal elite hands going forward.
