In spite of the occasional, scattered misfire for Will Stein, his recent activity on the recruiting trail has been one of a kind; at least, as far as Kentucky Football in the modern era goes. Being better than Mark Stoops in this way is one thing, but putting together a top 10 class nationally is entirely another.
In the past week alone, Stein has landed four (count 'em, four) recruits for Kentucky's 2027-28 class, quickly piecing together a team that should manage competition in both the SEC and on a national scale. That should get you a bowl game, at the very least.
Confirmed in a post by Rivals on X, three-star running back Mason Ball has officially committed to Kentucky, making him the fourth pledge of that aforementioned group. BBN, Stein got another one.
Ball is the third back specifically to commit to Kentucky for the season after the one at hand, rounding out a backfield trio that has the potential to push the Cats' offense over the top.
Rounding Out Stein's Trio
Bryian Duncan Jr. and Kelsey Gerald (the latter of whom committed just earlier this week), both three-star guys, are the other two names currently in the Cats' backfield. While no weapon specifically stands out as a do-all piece, the three together should form a formidable arsenal set behind No. 2 overall quarterback Jake Nawrot.
Besides, who doesn't love a little in-house competition for the top spot?

If that's what it comes down to, you can bet on Stein having his guys ready to battle. Ball, specifically, brings speed and consistently high yardage to Kroger Field. Even if he's joining the team as, again, one of a few apparent options, his unique set of skills should allow him to carve out a proper share of playing time.
Carving Out Clock
Ball, who ran track in high school, ran for 1,401 yards and 27 TDs on 7.61 yards per carry as a junior, according to 247Sports. His frame comes in at 185 pounds and just below six feet; with Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and North Carolina all involved to a serious extent, it's clear that Stein wasn't the only major head coach who saw the vision with this three-star stud.
It's difficult not to get ahead of yourself, as a Kentucky fan, with all of the stock and resources Stein is plainly putting in his 2027 group. Immediate success is wanted (and needed, to some extent), but seeing the head-man in Lexington plan successfully for the future is arguably more exciting than what's already on the table.
BBN, don't forget to welcome Ball to the Big Blue Nation on social media. He's the latest in a long line of new Cats that are helping push a renewed football program in the bluegrass.
