Will Stein won't have a chance to flip 4-star OL after post-commitment quote

In spite of being scheduled to visit Kentucky later this summer, the water has been shut off on a 4-star offensive lineman who decided to take his talents elsewhere.

On the recruiting trail, Will Stein has not only developed a reputation as someone who knows how to win the tight-knit battles, but as a head coach who isn't afraid to play dirty and steal a dude out from under another school's nose.

Recently, Stein flipped tight end Trae "Tank" Proctor from his previous commitment to the Auburn Tigers, sending relative shockwaves through the SEC in a moment of public re-arrival for Kentucky Football. He was looking to repeat the process later this summer, but unfortunately, this particular recruit has slammed the door shut.

Per Chad Simmons on X, four-star offensive lineman Jatori Williams (2027), who had a visit scheduled to Lexington late next month, seems to have closed the door on another Stein turnaround. His words, unfortunately, are pretty cut and dry:

"My recruitment is shut down." That'll just about do it, I suppose.

Jatori Williams Slammed the Door

Williams, who was also in the process of being recruited by Georgia, Alabama, and Florida State, isn't giving any one of those elite programs the time of day following his pledge to Miami. It isn't just Kentucky that won't have a shot to change his mind, if that's of any comfort.

It's also a wild indicator of just how far Kentucky Football has come in such a short time that Stein had the Wildcats battling tooth and nail with the aforementioned Bulldogs, Crimson Tide, and Seminoles. With the former two of those three consistently on the schedule, Kentucky can be glad that neither of their inter-conference rivals landed Williams.

And, in spite of this not being the recruitment of some sort of star-studded playmaker, Williams' status as a revered lineman would've gone a long way in repairing the recently up-and-down "big blue wall" on offense.

The Brighter Side

At 6-foot-5, 320 pounds, it's easy to see why Stein was vying heavily for this immovable, high-ceiling prospect on his favorite side of the ball.

But on the brighter side of things (even if it isn't blindingly so), Kentucky still has three commitments on the offensive line in the 2027 class: Ian Walker, Brady Hull, and Matthias Burrell. All of whom are three-star prospects, to be fair, but it's a promising early start nonetheless.

For as much success as Stein has had on the recruiting front since his December hiring, there are bound to be a few missed opportunities, especially in his first year. Kentucky remains an in-and-out top 10 class in 2027-28, and Stein remains one of the biggest risers in all of college football.

This is a "that sucks... anyway" situation for Cats fans. In my opinion, BBN can trust the process with Coach Stein until he provides ample reasons not to.
