Will Stein was brought to Lexington, primarily, due to the success he had as an offensive coordinator with the Oregon Ducks. Stein's green and yellow offense had the Ducks in nationally competitive conversations on a yearly basis, with quarterback after quarterback leaving to the NFL as a result.
Yet, his recruiting approach at Kentucky, as head coach now, has been refreshingly balanced. The Big Blue Nation hasn't had any room to worry about Stein weighting either side of the ball to any unfair extent; this coming team, as well as the 2027 class, have heat on offense and defense, both.
And, per Rivals and Hayes Fawcett, the Wildcats just secured another piece for that latter group. EDGE Griff Galloway has officially committed to Kentucky.
Coach Stein has been near unstoppable on a daily basis as of late, and Galloway's pledge represents yet another win on the road over common rival recruiting.
Another Win on the Road For Stein
Over Virginia Tech, inter-conference rival Auburn, and others, Kentucky landed the 3-star EDGE in Stein's continuous recent pursuit for defensive firepower. After securing cornerback Miles Brown just days before, Stein turned to the line to turn up the heat on opposing passers in advance.

According to Andrew Ivins of 247Sports, Galloway is a "Compact edge defender that might ultimately be more of an interior player," who "Projects as a multi-year contributor at the Power Four level with a higher floor."
In his most recent, 2025 campaign, Galloway was credited with 66 total tackles, 10.5 sacks (!) and one fumble recovery. Those are nasty numbers, and they hint that this three-star status may not tell the entire story of the player Kentucky just brought in.
As the Cats' 2027-28 class only improves, worries about this coming season not being quite as loaded are overshadowed by what Kentucky Football could become beyond it.
The Rising Potential of Kentucky Football
Now, I believe Kenny Minchey is going to lead Kentucky to a surprising season from his post under center. I think the Wildcats are going to be an immediate bowl team, even if just marginally so. That may be my excitement speaking, but we'll have to wait until the fall to be sure.
Either way, with a class consistently dancing in and out of the national top 10 for the year after, Stein is trying to turn Kentucky into a championship contender. No ifs, ands, or "pony ups" about it.
Whether or not the Wildcats actually get there will be complete guesswork until a Stein team starts to compete, especially in the SEC. But commitments like these are great signs that the head coach is on the right track to accomplishing that previously outlandish goal.
