Will Stein missed on an offensive target just yesterday and seemingly decided that enough was enough. Less than 24 hours later, Kentucky found themselves on the big board for a running back in the same 2027-28 bunch, and this time, Coach Stein didn't let him slip.
Per Hayes Fawcett on X, running back Kelsey Gerald has officially committed to Kentucky. BBN, we'vre got another Wildcat to welcome to the big blue family.
Gerald chose the blue and white over the likes of Auburn, Florida State, Georgia Tech, and others, furthering Stein's newfound hold on the recruiting trail since his arrival in Lexington. It hasn't taken the new head coach long to find his groove with a program that hasn't had such luck in years.
Gerald will help head No. 2 overall quarterback Jake Nawrot's backfield in an increasingly promising offense of Kentucky's future.
Heading Next Year's Backfield
The three-star back, who formerly ran track, too, comes in at 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds. He's a nimble weapon who should be given plenty of room to grow in Stein's renowned scoring system.

According to his 247Sports profile, Gerald finished his junior season with 158 carries for 1,267 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also caught 21 passes for 222 yards and an additional score. "Big Blue Nation, I'm home and ready to work!" Gerald said, attached to his commitment post.
Gerald joins Bryian Duncan Jr. as running backs committed to Stein for the 2027-28 season, both of whom carry three-star labels and both of whom come in at a similar stature and style of play. Regardless of each of their immediate designations, each carry the potential to see clock from day one.
True Blue and White
It's an even bigger testament to Gerald's pledge that he isn't the first player at his position to do so in his particular class. He's blue and white for the love of the game and, clearly, isn't afraid to work for his work.
Kentucky currently sits at No. 11 nationally when it comes to the team's overall 2027 class - just ahead of Michigan and just behind Oregon - placing the Cats in the firm upper echelon of national competition.
Things could change when a Stein-led group actually takes the field and, of course, much of the spotlight is currently on the team that comes after the one set to host in Kroger Field this fall.
But something tells me Stein's on-field performance will be just fine. Just a hunch? Maybe, or it might be his consistently nation-leading offensive units at Oregon prior to his hiring at Kentucky...
A hunch it is.
