The Will Stein hiring, in the wake of Mark Stoops' final, underwhelming cry in Lexington, has taken the football program by storm. A younger head coach boasting sensibilities opposite to Stoops in almost every facet, Stein's regime thus far has been one defined by high energy and even higher hopes.

It helps that the change has led to a number of promising recruits pledging their allegiance to Kroger Field, too. In a class arguably led by no-ceiling quarterback Kenny Minchey, Stein has managed to convince young talent of a vision that hasn't yet had a chance to hit the field. Whatever he's saying to recruits, it's clearly working.

The latest example of Stein's flaming efforts on the recrutiing trail comes in the form of defensive lineman Elijah Brown, who committed to the Big Blue Nation according to a report broken by Hayes Fawcett, of Rivals.

A Defensive Menace

In spite of being an offensive-minded coach, Stein and his staff have put a proper emphasis on the defensive side of the ball as the roster is continuously re-tooled. Out of Prattville, AL, Brown's 6'4", 315 frame is set to slot into a growingly menacing defensive line under newly-hired defensive coordinator Jay Bateman.

Having been offered by Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss and more, Stein's success in Lexington so far is sending an unmistakable message to the SEC. He, and Kentucky, are building something; with each new commitment, the noise grows louder, and the standard gets higher,

Of course, kickoff in the fall is still a long way off, and the football-favoring corner of the Big Blue Nation will have to wait a while longer before Coach Stein actually gets a chance to cement the promises he's made thus far.

Returning to Postseason Success

Although, rising success when it comes to recruitment is about as comforting as it gets for a fanbase going on four years with an appearance in a bowl game. What ultimately drove Stoops out of the bluegrass (in addition to painful, blowout losses to Louisville) were his repeated failures to capitalize on talent and string together consistently positive seasons.

If anyone can change the previously dead culture in Lexington, it's Will Stein. The BBN should rest relatively assured that their new captain has all the tools to put Kentucky football back on the map in the SEC. With a little more time (and a lot more money spent) the chips are set to fall favorably for the 2026-27 campaign.

Stein doesn't have to win it all, but as members of the crowd at Kroger Field, we know better than anyone than sub-.500 seasons won't cut it, even from the get-go.
