After only a month of verbally committing to Kentucky football, three-star wide receiver Cadarius Gaskin has decommitted.

The news of Kentucky football class of 2018 recruit Cadarius Gaskin’s decommittment has come only two weeks after losing rising QB Jarren Williams. The 6’3 wide out from Florida officially broke the news yesterday, and it’s a disappointment. Ryan Bartow, a National College Football Insider, was the first to report on Gaskin’s departure.

It’s been an up-and-down recruiting offseason for Stoops and company. It’s early on the recruiting trail for next season, so there’s a lot that can happen between now and the 2018-2019 season. Schools offer players after they’ve made verbal commits. So, holding onto a player for longer than a year is a tough thing to do.

There’s still potential for Gaskin to decide to commit to Kentucky later down the road. If he were to pursue his collegiate football career elsewhere, Kentucky still has picked up two other recruits at the position. Three-stars Marvin Alexander and Shocky Jacques-Louis, Florida natives like Gaskin, have committed to Kentucky, so there is some depth at wide receiver.

After the conclusion of this upcoming season, there will be a huge turnover at the wide receiver position. So, Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow are pressing hard to find depth at the receivers to cultivate for the future.

Cadarius Gaskin’s decommittment is a bummer, no doubt, but there is a lot of time to make some more moves. This upcoming season, Kentucky football seems primed to make a run at a nine to ten win season. If they were to make a good bowl game this year, it wouldn’t be a shock to see some four-star commit next offseason. Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow along with the rest of the Kentucky Football staff will certainly get things going.
