Will Stein has already made a formidable impression in Lexington, with spring practice underway and a number of the head coach's quotes making waves among a big blue fanbase simply glad to have someone at the top willing to fight for their program.
The 2026-27 roster has developed promisingly under Stein's speedy recruiting, with Kenny Minchey set to lead the offensive charge under center following his transfer from Notre Dame. Notorious for developing signal callers, Minchey is set to reach new heights under Stein.
But already, it seems, his successor has been chosen. In a seismic piece of recruiting news, reported by Hayes Fawcett on X, Kentucky has landed quarterback Jake Nawrot, the No. 2 passer in the entire 2027-28 class. That's a boom, BBN.
A Seismic Commitment for Stein
This landing, especially in the wake of Mark Stoops' subpar efforts at quarterback for years on end, signals a true shift within the Wildcats' football division. Stein has been active on the recruiting trail, but Nawrot's pledge is almost an entirely different level.
With Oregon (Stein's former crew), Kansas State, and Iowa (where Nawrot's dad played), all in serious contention, Kentucky won out over schools that have commonly been perceived as higher in the college football pecking order than the Cats. Now, with Stein? Kentucky is climbing.

On3's online portfolio for the passer describes Nawrot as an "Instinctual quarterback prospect with the passing skill and physical traits to make him one of the top passers in the 2027 cycle," who, "Put more difficult throws on junior film than any other top quarterback prospect in the cycle. .."
It's safe to say that Stein landed a big fish that could, from here on out, change the perception of football in the bluegrass for the foreseeable future.
Stein is Changing the Program's Perception
Of course, part of the reputation changing at Kroger Field is that Stein continues to succeed on the recruiting trail. But for the new head coach to get off to a start such as this one, and so soon in the wider view of his tenure, is a start that even the most optimistic Kentucky fan would've struggled to demand after the aforementioned Stoops missed a bowl game this past season.
Nawrot, despite still being a year out, is set to lead a new kind of charge for the Wildcats. He's a demanding recruit that we should be thrilled about in the BBN. The future is now for the Cats on the gridiron.
Will Stein isn't scared of the SEC, and you shouldn't be either.
