Will Stein, on the same day as his first spring game as the Wildcats head coach, was on X early in the morning hinting at an apparent commitment. Naturally, the Big Blue Nation went wild with speculation and, naturally, Coach Stein wasn't blowing blue smoke.

Broken by Hayes Fawcett (also on X), four-star safety Tristin Hughes has officially committed to Kentucky. "BBN, LETS WORKKKK!!!," the defensive star added, bookending a massive grab for Stein's takeover in Lexington. Not only is this a big pickup for the team, but it's also one Cats fans likely couldn't have dreamed of with the previous coaching regime.

Put plainly, Mark Stoops wasn't beating out the likes of Michigan and Penn State for big-name defensive stars. Not to mention Virginia Tech who, now led by James Franklin, bears a similar blue blood pull. The sun is shining brighter than ever on Kroger Field.

Setting a New Precedent

In fact, Hughes had been predicted to Virginia Tech in the majority by 247Sports; Stein, who had already played spoiler in an SEC recruitment within the last week, continues to upset expectations behind the scenes.

Clearly, his offensive speciality as a head coach has no bearing on his ability to recruit studs on the other side of the ball. Hughes should fit right in with Kentucky's growingly menacing defense.

The spry six-foot-flat ball hawk, set to join the Wildcats in the 2027-28 season, was described as "A natural playmaker on both sides of the ball that projects best as a split safety on Saturdays with his instincts and physicality," by 247's Andrew Ivins.

He was also noted as a "high-floor, high-IQ prospect" who should, accordingly, make an immediate impact when he hits the gridiron next year. Cats fans can rejoice - the football program seems to be officially back, assuming the results match the recruiting starting this fall.

Coach Stein lands yet another stud to feed.
