There have been and continue to be many negative words and sentiments shared about the Mark Stoops’ era with Kentucky Football. The highs were (relatively) high, and the lows… well, a 41-0 blowout at the hands of the Louisville Cardinals to finish out his tenure tells you everything you need to know. It was an ugly divorce.
Even so, there are a few landmark memories and positives that most Cats fans associate with Stoops’ time in Lexington. Aside from singular names, like Will Levis, Benny Snell or “Boom” Williams, the Wildcats’ offensive line was always a sticking point.
Lovingly dubbed the “Big Blue Wall” by the Big Blue Nation - the best Big Blue fandom in college athletics, mind you - the aforementioned Levis found much of his success behind an offensive line that was nearly impossible to penetrate.
And while Stoops' final few teams fell below this mark, Will Stein is actively working to revive it in Lexington, especially when it comes to the class of 2027.
Reed Gerken Commits to Kentucky
The latest addition to a growingly exciting crew, per Hayes Fawcett, is new Kentucky commit Reed Gerken. The offensive tackle chose the blue and white over Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Cincinnati, and others.
Another recruiting win for Will Stein's fast-rising regime, and another step closer to the complete return of the Big Blue Wall.

Gerken, a three-star offensive tackle out of Perrysburg, OH, is the fourth prospect in 2027-28 to commit to the Cats' offensive line. Unsurprisingly, that's the largest group of any position in the class.
The new guy joins Ian Walker, Brady Hull, and Matthias Burrell on Cutter Leftwich's protective crew. Upon his big blue decision, Gerken left a message for Cats fans tuned into the news:
""I'm home, BBN.""
Start the "one of us" chants, Cats fans. We've got another stud in it for the right reasons.
Breaching the National Stage
No matter how good Kentucky ends up being in Stein's first year behind the wheel, what he's building for the seasons thereafter suggests a vision that goes well beyond immediate success.
Of course, a bowl game right off the rip would be nice, but there are ample reasons to trust that this thing is headed in the right direction regardless.
Gerken's commitment, along with the three others that announced their pledge to the blue and white just one day earlier, on Sunday, are big reasons on their own.
Whether it ends up being Kenny Minchey or Jake Nawrot under center in the 2027-28 campaign, their success will depend, to an extent, on the revival of the Big Blue Wall. You've gotta like what Stein has been able to do with that group already... and this is only the beginning.
