Mark Pope's potential point guard of the future receives an offer from Kentucky

Mark Pope continues to work on Kentucky's class of the future, most recently circling a four-star point guard as a serious target.

With Kentucky's 2026-27 roster almost completely set, the Big Blue Nation can get comfortable with the team that they're set to cheer for this fall. On that front, things are looking perhaps more promising than they ever have under Coach Pope.

But with that roster solidifying, Coach Pope and his staff are starting to look forward to the group that will come after them. Recruiting for 2027-28 is in full swing, and Kentucky got a major head start with the commitment of Ryan Hampton. The five-star forward made his allegiance to the Wildcats official on Sunday, and since, the Cats' momentum has carried them to another public proposition.

On his Instagram, Jaxson Davis made Kentucky's new offer known. Pope is in on the four-star point guard, pitting the Wildcats against a number of notable programs in the hunt for this premier playmaker.

I'll just get out front and say it: Davis and Hampton would make a perfect pairing in a class that's quickly picking up steam. Kentucky would benefit from continuing to swing early in an attempt to land another difference maker.

Jaxson Davis is a Difference Maker

As early as September of last year (per League Ready), Davis was already making major noise on social media. His one-star-short status has done little to nothing to distract from what the floor general does so well.

That is, mainly, scoring. Much like Hampton, Davis has an incredibly deep bag on the offensive end. He's got a smooth jumper and gets downhill with a speed reminiscent of many of Kentucky's all-time great guards.

His 6-foot, 165-pound frame is hard to stay in front of and, at that size, he's surprisingly physical in the paint, too.

As far as I'm concerned, he'd an underrated player that will surprise anywhere he goes. Kentucky, recruiting against Illinois, Indiana, and others, may have an opportunity to flex their legacy card and land a dude who should likely be higher on every list.

The Heart of Any Team

As Kentucky fans know all too well from last year's failures, a good point guard is the heart of any good team. Zoom Diallo is only a junior this season at Kentucky and, with any luck, he'll be back and in top form next season for the Wildcats.

But it doesn't hurt to have a measure of insurance at that position, and in Davis, Pope could be making a long-term investment that situates Kentucky's backcourt for the foreseeable future.

Davis, who averaged 14.2 points & 5.2 assists per game in three of Nike's EYBL sessions, has that big blue offer on the table. This is one to keep a close (close, close) eye on as recruiting for the 2027 class becomes the apple of Mark Pope's eye.
