Much of this offseason's attention has been put on Will Stein's 2027-28 class for Kentucky Football, and with that group consistently trending towards a legitimate preseason ranking, it's hard to fault anyone's excitment. No. 2 quarterback Jake Nawrot leads that group as one of Kentucky's biggest recruits ever.
But before Nawrot has a chance to make a difference under center, Notre Dame transfer Kenny Minchey will take the reins of Stein's offense first. Minchey just doubled down on his blue and white allegiance to On3's Pete Nakos, calling his sudden decision to flip from Nebraska a "no-brainer."
The highly sought after passer left the Cornhuskers at the altar for a new life in Lexington, and he's not looking back.
Minchey expounded on his apparently easy change of heart, applauding Coach Stein and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan: “These are basically the best two guys at their positions across the country, and with what they’ve been able to do in terms of quarterback development.”

Stein has had great success recruiting for the defensive side of the ball, but his offensive speciality is what got him the Kentucky job in the first place. It's also, it seems, what landed him an uber-promising quarterback in Kenny Minchey.
Stein's Offensive Specialty
Stein, who sent both Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel to the NFL from his feared post as the Oregon Ducks offensive coordinator, has developed a refined reputation for quarterback growth that few other play-callers can claim.
In Minchey's case specifically, after narrowly missing the starting job with the Fighting Irish last season, a fresh start appeared to be his best shot at a legitimate starting job. Anybody battling for the leading gig at Notre Dame is going to be able to find a job elsewhere.
And that job was going to be with Nebrasksa, all the way up until the midnight hour when Stein and Kentucky swooped in and flipped Minchey. Now, he'll look to follow in the footsteps of those aforementioned NFL guys as Kentucky Football rushes toward a revival.
The emotions of Nebraska fans aside, this has become the nature of recruiting in college football. Kentucky has already been on both sides of the ever-dreaded commitment flip this offseason; you can't really get comfortable until a recruitment is completely shut down and signed off.
Minchey, though, was comfortable from the jump with the Wildcats. Before getting too excited for what's to come, don't forget to hone in on the team we've got at hand. Will Stein's first batch of Cats has the potential to surprise a lot of people, and Minchey calling the shots is a big reason why.
