After missing out on Jordan Haskins yesterday, Kentucky isn't wasting any time building up its recruiting profile. The Cats have landed in the top 10 for an elite wide receiver out of the talent-rich state of Texas.

Four-Star WR Trenton Yancey is down to 10 schools

Trenton Yancy is a top 150 player and the 18th-best wide receiver in the class of 2027, according to 247. Getting that kind of talent at a skill position is exactly what you would expect out of a Will Stein offense that has been in the top 25 in total offense while at Oregon.

Yancy is an Under Armour All-American, and in addition to being a standout on the football field, is adept at running on the track as well. He has an 11.23 100-yard time that would translate to a 4.6 40-yard dash.

Kentucky football is not the only one chasing Yancy

While Kentucky is a finalist, there are 9 other programs the Cats will have to fight off if he is going to play in Lexington. Florida, Florida State, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, SMU, TCU, and Texas are all in play.

Coming from Duncanville, Texas, Yancy is going to be tough to pluck if Texas or TCU really throw on the full-court press. Much like the state of Louisiana with LSU, any team who wants to recruit the state of Texas has to worry about the Texas schools first.

Why Will Stein's offense is bringing in such a wide range of interest

Will Stein has said that he wants to "feed the studs," or get the ball into the hands of the guys who can make the plays as much as possible. He has also proved he can get guys into the NFL from his system at multiple positions. Look at the offensive players drafted from Oregon who thrived under Stein in Eugene:

Bo Nix
Dillon Gabriel
Jordan James
Bucky Irving
Tez Johnson
Troy Franklin
Terrance Ferguson
Kenyon Sadiq (projected this year)

When you can point at the NFL and say, "My offense helped get these guys to the pros," that matters. Clearly, that pitch is working as Kentucky has been on a recruiting blitz since Stein was hired back in December.

As we have mentioned, getting into a top 10 or top 5 is a great first step. But it is only that. The next step is getting these guys in uniform and keeping them there. Can Stein and this staff do that? Only time will tell.
