Kentucky Baseball: Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart Preparing Cliff Hagan Stadium for a Super Regional
Kentucky Baseball is now 31-14 on the season, ranked in the top five, and the current leader in the SEC. There are three weeks left in the regular season, and Kentucky looks primed to receive a top seed in the tournament.
Kentucky Baseball head coach, Nick Mingione has become somewhat of a hero so far this season. He’s taken a team that had the same player’s as last year, and turned them into a top team in the nation. As a result of those efforts, Kentucky is in a position to potentially host the super regional, if they win the regional tournament.
AD Mitch Barnhart is preparing for the Cats to win that regional and gain home-field advantage. According to CatsIllustrated.com, Barnhart is concerned about seating, due to Cliff Hagan Stadium’s 3,000 seat capacity. Additionally, the stadium is surrounded by student dorms and the Nutter Fieldhouse, as well as the track & field facility. This only increases the difficulty of parking and access for out of town guest’s.
Adding Space
Barnhart is hoping to get that 3,000 seat capacity to 4,500, through implementing seating down the left field, and adding some seating here and there.
"“I think we can get (the capacity) up there,” Barnhart said. “We bring in (seats) down the left field line and the outside the left field fence. We’re in pretty good shape. We can add some more” (via CatsIllustrated.com)."
Regardless, Kentucky is in good shape to make a run this postseason. With strong wins such as Louisville and a series win against LSU, Kentucky has proven they’re among the best in the nation. Also, the Wildcats are ranked number three in the country in RPI. This stat alone paired with a 31-14 record is impressive enough to earn them some attention for exposure for a national seed position.
