On April 4, 2017 Kentucky Baseball lost 5-3 on the road to Louisville. Last night, in a rematch at Cliff Hagan Stadium, No. 10 Kentucky defeated No. 2 Louisville 11-7.

Out of all of the teams in the SEC, the Kentucky Baseball program is the only team to never make a College World Series. Making it to Omaha is no easy task, but year after year of disappointment has made most fans tune the Cats out. This year, the boys in blue are looking poised to make a run to not only get to Omaha, but to win the whole thing. After beating second-ranked Louisville last night, Kentucky has made a case for themselves as one of the top-five teams in the country.

This game was won early on by the Cats, as they scored all eleven runs within the first four innings. The scoring was led off by an RBI single from Luke Becker. This RBI led to a 5-run first inning, setting the tone early. Connor Heady hit a 2-run blast to cap off a 4-run third inning.

The play of the game though was the triple-play in the second inning. With runners on second and third and no outs, Louisville was looking to cut into the 5-0 deficit. Then this happened:

This play is no doubt going to wind up on SportsCenter’s Top 10.

Louisville went on to score seven unanswered, but it was too little too late. The Cats have advanced to 26-12 on the season, and they look good. With Omaha becoming all the more likely, it’s time to get excited. Come cheer on your Wildcats as they start a 3-game home stand against the LSU Tigers on Saturday, April 22. Beating Louisville in just about anything is cause for a celebration. But beating one of the top ranked teams in the country, with one of the highest paid head coaches in the land is just icing on the cake.
