When the Kentucky Wildcats basketball season ended in the Final Four, most people expected six to seven players to depart for the NBA Draft.  But no one expected John Calipari to sign just one player in return during the Spring Signing period.  And if you had guessed that Calipari would sign just one player, odds are pretty good that you did not predict that it would be a JUCO player named Mychal Mulder.

Yet to the surprise of everyone, that is exactly what happened.  Don’t get me wrong, Mulder was a nice pickup and he provides a much-needed sharpshooter to replace the void left by Devin Booker.  But Mulder is much more than just a shooter.

"“That’s something I can provide for the team but I don’t define myself as a shooter. I try to be an all-around basketball player,” Mulder said. “I have other intangibles. Not all shooters rebound the ball well. I work hard to do a number of things.”"

In this video, Mulder shows off his hops and that he can finish around the basic as well.  And that is the type of player that will thrive in John Calipari’s system.

It also looks like Kentucky is getting a solid character guy in Mychal Mulder.  He is a leader who has been to two straight JUCO Final Fours of his own.  And in the interview with him, he comes across as an extremely humble guy who is grateful for the opportunity and is eager to prove his worth to the Big Blue Nation.

"But Mulder says he feels as though Kentucky recruited him for more than just his basketball ability.“They know you can play basketball. They’re looking for the other things, “Mulder said. “They liked me as a person. They liked my attitude about winning and how much I value that. They were looking for someone who wasn’t going to be scared of the big stage. I’m not afraid of pressure.”Mulder says he will arrive on campus June 11, the day before his 21st birthday.“They told me to be ready to work,” Mulder said. “I need to gain a little bit of weight before the season starts and they have a great strength coach so I’m excited to get right back to the grind.”After wearing No. 33 at Vincennes, Mulder says he plans to wear No. 11, his old high school number, at Kentucky.“I’m hoping to wear No. 11,” Mulder said. “It reminds me of where I’m from.”"
