Kentucky football had a much better performance against the Akron Zips, where the Cats won 35-3. And now the real part of the season begins, with Vanderbilt starting UK’s SEC slate.

Here are three players that need to step up in week 4:

1. Barion Brown:

I am trying to not use the same players every week for this series, but this week I have to. Brown only had two receptions for 19 yards in the dominant win against Akron. After leading the Wildcats in receiving a year ago, Brown is now fourth on the team in receiving yards. He’s still second in receptions but hasn’t been able to break any for long gains. The Cats will need him to be better in the passing game if Kentucky wants to be successful this season.

2. Deone Walker:

Walker only had two total tackles against Akron. The Kentucky football defense will need him to reach the quarterback more if the Wildcats want to be one of the best defenses in the country again. So far, Trevin Wallace has done that, with 3.5 sacks in three games, but he can’t be the only one.

3. J.J. Weaver:

Weaver only had three total tackles against the Akron Zips. He has not played badly at all. The Cats will just need him to lead the linebacking core and become even more dominant to have success in the SEC.

Kentucky now starts conference play against Vanderbilt in Nashville at Noon on Saturday. This is only the start of a tough conference schedule for the Cats.
