The impact of the NCAA potentially folding fifth-year graduated seniors into the transfer portal pool goes far beyond the bounds of college basketball. Much of the Big Blue Nation's attention has been on Mark Pope's early efforts on the men's basketball front, but Will Stein has now turned eyes to Kroger Field upon his first media day appearance in Lexington.
On the ongoing 5-in-5 rule change, Stein expressed an absolute lack of subtlety when it comes to Kentucky's approach to the updated landscape. "We are looking to enhance our roster all the time," Stein began, preaching to a Kentucky choir.
"If there’s a five-for-five option that we believe can make us better, we’re gonna attack it full force," Stein continued. "I think it’s still a wait and see.”

"Wait and see" are the big words there, and honestly, they're a tad bit confusing. We're just a little over a month away from kicking off on Stein's first season as Kentucky's head coach; if he and his staff are looking to add firepower, I doubt it'll happen on the eve of September 5, or even all that close to it.
Even so, with this ruling still in its infancy and coaches figuring it out day-by-day, Kentucky fans can do nothing more than wait this recruitment period out.
Kentucky Fans Must Wait This Recruitment Period Out
Really, this goes for both sports. Little to nothing is actually known about how this ruling will shake out in the end, and the BBN knows all too well that recruiting is generally a shadowed procedure right up until news actually breaks.
But with football much closer than anything else, the pressure feels slightly higher for Coach Stein. While Kentucky fans tap their feet in angst, the football program's new captain is working behind the scenes to ensure that this roster is ready for the fall.
As far as the current team goes, I believe Kentucky will be fine either way.
Kentucky Football Will Be Fine Regardless
The most important position of the bunch is, of course, quarterback. That's been a point of contention in the past few seasons for the Wildcats, but with transfer Kenny Minchey holding down the fort, Stein and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan's scoring unit has a solid anchor point.
From there, it's about fresh faces clicking with turnover from Mark Stoops' last team. How does a returning receiver like Hardley Gilmore IV mesh with another signal caller under center? Will Ty Bryant continue his defensive climb under defensive coordinator Jay Bateman?
These are questions we'll have to wait to answer, but the potential is already there for an improved season in Stein's first go-around. Any addition from here on out should serve as an extra bit of excitement on top of a worthy offseason already.
