Will Stein's hot week ignites as Ty Ashley commits, 4-star 'game-wreckers' circle Lexington

Will Stein is proving to be a force on the recruiting trail. Kentucky football is building momentum on the recruiting trail as the new head coach lands a local commitment and draws interest from multiple four-star playmakers.

Kentucky football is in the midst of an "extreme home makeover," and head coach Will Stein is bringing the type of energy and blue-chip interest that Lexington has been starving for. I'd call it a pretty good week when you land a local hero over Notre Dame, plus draw interest from an elite "game-wrecker" Ja'Hyde Brown. And let's not forget 4-star Tristin Hughes officially putting the Cats in his sights.

The Homecoming: Ty Ashley picks the Cats

The spark that ignited the week was the commitment of Ty Ashley, a standout linebacker from Owensboro in the Class of 2027. Ashley chose the Wildcats over heavy hitters like Notre Dame, Louisville, and Indiana.

Ashley is a player Will Stein has prioritized since day one. After making it official on Thursday, Ashley had a simple, poignant message for the Commonwealth: “Remember where you came from.”

The 'game-wrecker' Ja'Hyde Brown reopens

While the Cats were celebrating Ashley, the regional landscape shifted in a way that has Stein’s staff on high alert. 4-star WR Ja'Hyde Brown officially decommitted from the National Champion Indiana Hoosiers on Thursday.

Brown is a legitimate "game-wrecker" according to the 247 Director of Scouting, who is a threat to take it to the house every single time he touches the ball. With Stein now leading the charge, the Cats are locked in a high-stakes battle with Louisville to keep this home-grown stud in the Bluegrass. This young player could very well be a stud that needs to be fed. And Will Stein knows how to do that.

The final six: Tristin Hughes

The circle of interest widened even further as 4-star athlete Tristin Hughes (Rocky River, OH) officially named Kentucky one of his Top 6 finalists. The Cats are battling Michigan, Purdue, Virginia Tech, Auburn, and Miami (FL) for the versatile playmaker. Hughes already has an official visit locked in for Lexington on June 5th, proving that Stein's reach is extending far beyond the Kentucky border.

Will Stein is just getting started

Stein isn't slowing down on the practice field either. With the coach heavily involved in every spring workout, there are real rumblings that this hire could really turn into something special.

Stein is proving that the best way to build a house is to start with the best materials, and right now, those materials are all looking toward Lexington. And that must feel really good for everyone involved.
