Vince Marrow leaves sour comment as Will Stein, Kentucky land another 4-star commit

Vince Marrow leaving Kentucky for Louisville undeniably stung, but the former blue and white coach bitterly reacting to Will Stein's recruiting success online feels like overdue poetic justice.

Vince Marrow left his long-standing position with Kentucky Football right as the Mark Stoops era was winding down. He got out while he could and, since then, has pulled no punches, often swinging from his (newly) red and black X account at disgruntled Cats fans.

Or, at least he was prior to Will Stein's takeover in Lexington. Stein has, in just a few short months, completely overhauled the program's ongoing reputation. Landing big name after big name, the Wildcats on the gridiron have taken on an entirely different, much more compelling identity. Most recently, though, Marrow chimed in once more, following yet another Kentucky pledge.

Four-star safety Marquis Bryant, who was also being recruited by Tennessee and Auburn, has officially committed to Kentucky (per Hayes Fawcett). Coach Stein got another one. Mama, there goes that man.

And Marrow, it seems, has had enough.

Marrow Sours on Kentucky's Success

Marrow, in a thinly-veiled post online shortly after Bryant's announcement, took an unorthodox route to explain Kentucky leaping in-state rival Louisville in the 2027 recruiting rankings once more. "lol it’s called over spending," Marrow posted, leaving the one-sided issue at that.

Kentucky fans, of course, didn't take kindly to this. The 340+ replies on Marrow's post (to just a little more than 400 likes), are chock-full of the Big Blue Nation dunking on their former coach in endless jest. Terms like "bitter" and "crying" represent the least of these droves.

Louisville's blowout win in the two-team rivalry this past season seems to have left with the aforementioned Stoops. Kentucky fans are rocking with Stein and, even now, spare no love for Marrow.

No Love Lost

Bryant, who is described by 247Sports' Andrew Ivins as a "Mature safety prospect with sharp instincts that has proven to be a natural playmaker," pushed Kentucky's 2027 class to the No. 6 spot nationally - that's currently one rank higher than the neighboring Cardinals, hence Marrow's comment.

Coach Stein has managed to put an impressive group together on both sides of the ball. Bryant certainly bolsters the defense, while No. 2 ranked quarterback Jake Nawrot thus far defines the Cats' expectedly tantalizing offense.

The 2027-28 season is still a year away, and Kentucky will have to play the Cardinals before then. But the tides are changing regarding football in the bluegrass, and Will Stein is pulling no punches of his own. Only, he's throwing them on the recruiting trail - not social media.
