Intriguing wing transfer set to visit Kentucky this week
By Alec Lasley
A new name has popped up on the Kentucky basketball recruiting board and things are moving quickly.
Following a week-long stretch with a prospect on campus every day, it was a slower weekend for Mark Pope and Kentucky. But, that's about to change.
According to KSR.com's Jacob Polacheck, Farleigh Dickinson wing Ansley Almonor will be on campus on Tuesday. That follows a zoom call with the Kentucky staff over the weekend.
Almonor is a 6-foot-7 wing who averaged 16.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game last season. He started 31 games.
Almonor shot 39.4 percent from three and hit 93 total 3s.
He is a very effective scorer, totaling 20 points 10 times and 25+ points in three games.
Almonor is a career 38.5 percent three-point shooter who has made 180 in his three years. In the last two years as a full-time starter, he's combined to make 168 3s and average 2.5 made 3s a game.
With his size and frame, he can play some small-ball 4 and his hybrid skillset allows for a lot of versatility on both ends of the floor.
He has one year of eligibility remaining.
Kentucky has seven incoming transfers, all of which bring a different skillset to the floor and most importantly, all of the pieces definitely fitting together.
The Wildcats are still lacking a legit go-to scorer at the moment. While Almonor isn't that piece, he would add another terrific shooting option to the roster.
