Former Kentucky guard Reed Sheppard was continuously discussed as someone who would be able to come into the NBA and make an impact right away. Well, on Friday night he did.

Sheppard, who was the third overall selection in the 2024 NBA Draft, made his NBA Summer League debut on Friday in Las Vegas and showed why so many teams were so high on the former Kentucky standout.

He finished with 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three, five assists, four rebounds and three blocks. He was also a +21 in 30 minutes.

Sheppard led the Houston Rockets to a 99-80 win over the Los Angels Lakers.

The rookie guard scored off of the dribble, off of the catch and in transition. He was consistent the entire night and really showcased his entire skillset.

Sheppard, who played just one season at Kentucky, became the highest-selected Wildcat since 2017.

He had a terrific freshman season -- despite starting just five games. Sheppard averaged 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He also shot 52.1 percent from three and hit 75 3s on the season.

He was graded as the best shooter in the draft class by numerous analysts throughout the pre and post-draft process and clearly did not disappoint on Friday.

Entering Summer League play, Sheppard was given the fifth highest odds to win Rookie of the Year.
