Just how good can Kentucky guard Reed Sheppard be in his first season in the NBA? Well, the first official Rookie of the Year odds were released heading into Summer League play and Sheppard is among the favorites.

Sheppard, who was selected 3rd overall by the Houston Rockets, will play a large role in his rookie season -- but what are his chances at winning Rookie of the Year?

He's tied for the fifth best odds, at +1000, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. He's tied with Bulls wing Matas Buzelis and Spurs guard Stephon Castle.

The players with better odds are Alexandre Sarr at +650, Zach Edey at +700, Zaccharie Risacher at +750 and Dalton Knecht at +850.

Sheppard, who played just one season at Kentucky, became the highest-selected Wildcat since 2017.

This comes on the heels of a terrific freshman season -- despite starting just five games. Sheppard averaged 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He also shot 52.1 percent from three and hit 75 3s on the season.

His shooting ability is what had scouts so high on his ability to see his skillset translate to the next level.

He was graded as the best shooter in the draft class by numerous analysts throughout the pre and post-draft process.

Sheppard begins Summer League play on Friday July 12.
