After Kentucky lost out on a commitment from a highly-prized recruit back in the 2021 class, it could be on the verge of winning out in his second recruitment.
Former Owensboro (Ky.) four-star prospect Gavin Wimsatt is transferring from Rutgers and is visiting Kentucky, according to Matt Jones of KSR.
Wimsatt was a top target for Kentucky a few years ago but made the surpising decision to leave the state and head to Rutgers mid-way through his senior season.
Wimsatt entered the transfer portal last week after losing the starting quarterback job to new Rutgers incoming transfer and former Minnesota QB Athan Kaliakmanis.
Wimsatt started all 13 games last season and accounted for 2,232 total yards, 10th most in a single-season in Rutgers history.
He threw for 1,735 yards with nine touchdowns but also eight interceptions. His completion rate was just 47.8 percent. Wimsatt is better-known for his rushing ability, however. He ran for 497 yards and 11 touchdowns.
His 11 rushing touchdowns were ninth-most in a season in Rutgers history and most ever by a quarterback.
He led Rutgers to a 7-6 record and win over Miami (Fla.) in the Pinstripe Bowl.
Currently, Kentucky has quarterbacks Beau Allen and Cutter Boley on the roster battling it out throughout spring. The Wildcats also brought over Brock Vandagriff from Gerogia. But neither of the three are extremely experienced.
Coming out of high school Wimsatt had offers from Louisville, Michigan, Ole Miss, Missouri, Notre Dame and a handful of other programs.
He has two years of eligibility remaining.
