Mark Pope seems to have mostly settled on his current recruiting class; after landing Milan Momcilovic, and with noise having gone mostly silent on the front of Nikola Kusturica, Kentucky's remaining final roster spot is taking a temporary backseat to the Cats' 2027-28 recruiting efforts.
Pope and his staff have already jumped out to a hot start in that regard, having secured a commitment from five-star forward Ryan Hampton, but that was only the beginning of what could be the head coach's best class yet. Per Jack Pilgrim and KSR, Pope and assistant coach Mo Williams traveled to Texas last weekend for the 2026 TABC Boys Showcase to watch, among others, the nation's No. 1 overall recruit in the 2027 class.
Five-star forward Marcus Spears Jr. is at the forefront of just about every team's recruiting efforts nationally - he's the top dog, after all. Check out Pope and Williams plotting on the sideline of the event, from Kai McClelland on X:

Throw in a rumor from BigBlueDylan that notes Pope having met with Spears and his dad on the trip, and you've got a pile of fast-mounting evidence that Kentucky is circling their next big commitment.
In that hypothetical case, an already good, one-man class would become an immediate nationwide problem.
Marcus Spears Jr. Makes Kentucky a Real Problem
Spears, coming in at 6-foot-9, 210 lbs, would slide in next to the 6-foot-6, (likely to be) small forward Hampton at the four spot. The two would form a versatile scoring force in the center of Kentucky's starting lineup; from there on out, it'd be a matter of building the team around these two units.
Oh, and Spears and Hampton are cousins. I can't imagine that doesn't factor into the recruiting pitch.
247Sports' Adam Finkelstein calls Spears "a bouncy finisher around the rim," who can "put the ball on the floor a bit and is comfortable at the high post." Finkelstein added: "Defensively, he can already slide laterally and protect the rim."
Spears, who was recently on a fishing trip with Hampton, has a preexisting relationship with the guy that Kentucky has sitting as a lure on their next-year roster already. If Pope can get the No. 1 recruit on campus for a visit, maybe we'd see a similar outcome to Hampton's sudden commitment.
Mark Pope has flipped his recruiting reputation on its head in the last month or so; he went from a guy often poked fun at for his apparent inability to net the nation's top guys to a coach who is actively chasing his second top 10 freshman in the 2027 class alone.
Getting Spears to commit to Kentucky is a wholly different task than simply pursuing him, but confidence in Coach Pope is at an all-time high. Never say never, BBN.
