We've hit an all-time hype high this offseason. Not even a full day after Kentucky target Jaxon Kohler committed to BYU, Mark Mitchell has officially received a temporary injunction to play a fifth year of college basketball, per On3 and Texas Trial Group. Mark Pope's apparent top choice all along is now in the transfer portal and can be recruited.
This news couldn't come at a better time for the Wildcats. Not only did Kohler just cut out elsewhere, but time was simply getting uncomfortably tight for Kentucky ahead of fall basketball. We're barely a week out of September now - something had to give if Pope was going to add a player.
Now, the All-SEC transfer that Kentucky fans have been waiting on for weeks now has a clear runway to Lexington. Nothing is set in stone just yet, but it's more than fair to say that every existing signal around Mitchell is pointing to his eventual commitment to Kentucky.

We're officially on commitment watch, Big Blue Nation. Buckle up and turn on your post notifications.
Kentucky is on commitment watch for Mark Mitchell
The bulk of this information isn't at all new to Kentucky fans, but it's worth recapping now that Mitchell could realistically pop at any time. In a court filing from earlier this week, it was stated that "Mark Mitchell is among at least three plaintiffs who have expressed a desire to play another season at a Kentucky school."
With Louisville not at all involved, it's not hard to get to the bottom of who that "Kentucky school" is. Pope and his staff have pressed hard for Mitchell from the moment he appeared to be a possibility, and that singular focus is now closer than ever to paying off.
Regarding Kentucky's outlook given his potential pledge to the blue and white, Pope's already competitive roster would immediately enter national conversations of the highest degree.
Mitchell puts Kentucky into nationally competitive conversations
Yes, we're talking national-title level stuff. Why wouldn't we be? All of Zoom Diallo, Alex Wilkins, Milan Momcilovic, and Mark Mitchell averaged better than 15 points per game last season. Add Malachi Moreno as the nearly-NBA-bound big man at the top of that lineup, and you've got one of the nastiest scoring fixtures in the entire SEC.
Mitchell's addition would also allow both Ousmane N'Diaye and Justin McBride to flourish on the bench, strengthening a backup frontcourt that currently looks thin.
It's as complete as final commitments get. Keep your eyes peeled all day today as we await further news on Mitchell's commitment. Maybe we'll meet back in this same spot to celebrate before the day is over.
