Big Blue Madness is a unique mainstay of Kentucky basketball, and once again, we've got a date set for this fall. Kentucky Athletics announced that the fan-favorite extravaganza will take place on Oct. 2 this season, allowing the Big Blue Nation to get their ducks in a row in advance. What's more, BBM will finally return to Friday night.
Historically, you'd be hard-pressed to find an occasion where BBM fell on any other day. Last year, the men's and women's teams took a detour with the event taking place on a Saturday. Somehow, that just didn't feel right.
We're back and better than ever now. This year's BBM represents an unusually exciting era for both Mark Pope's and Kenny Brooks' squads. Each group has a solid argument for being the best under either coach yet, and simultaneously, the expectations are at an all-time high for each.

In short: The pressure is on for Kentucky basketball in general, and BBM's return to form is the best possible way to celebrate the return of blue and white hoops. There's no telling what antics Rupp Arena will come up with this time around, but even on a Saturday, last year will be hard to beat.
Bringing John Wall Back to Rupp Arena Was a 10/10 Moment
When John Wall came out and surprised Kentucky fans at last year's BBM, hitting his signature dance move that has had Rupp Arena fired up for more than a decade now, the roof nearly fell in on the place.
Collin Chandler then threw down a slam and celebrated (and danced) with Wall, resulting in that BBM being immediately set in stone as one of the best in recent memory. Regardless of that team going on to struggle mightily, the hype couldn't have been higher that night.
This time around, fans will be looking for a fresh experience, as well as different results that follow.
Kentucky Fans are Expecting Better Results This Season
That sentiment mainly goes for the men's team, who got blown out in the Round of 32 at the hands of Iowa State. The women's squad are also expected to make a leap, falling just one round later to the No. 1 seed Texas Longhorns - yes, that game was also lopsided.
With both programs boasting a top-10 transfer class, that shouldn't be a problem. Both of Kentucky's head coaches have put together offseasons that deserve a little celebrating. We've got a day for that, and this year, it comes right at the beginning of October.
Anyone know what Will Stein is up to on that day? Have him come down from Kroger Field and turn this thing into a full-on party.
