Mark Pope's recruiting efforts for Kentucky are currently jammed between this current class and the one that will come after it. Landing five-star wing Ryan Hampton put the Cats in an enviable spot early for next year, but with an open roster spot still calling for the team at hand, every recruit looks like a dual opportunity for Pope and his staff.
The standout exception is five-star big Paul Osaruyi. The star-studded power forward has made his intentions clear to remain in the 2027 class, and as his recruitment heats up, Pope and his Kentucky staff are clearly making a statement with their increased involvement.
Osaruyi earned his Kentucky offer earlier this year, but at Peach Jam this past weekend, the Cats' staff showed out like never before. Both Pope himself, as well as assistant coach ("The Closer") Mo Williams were in attendance to watch Osaruyi compete.
Kentucky remains involved with a number of players in the 2027 pool, many of whom share the frontcourt with Osaruyi. But the difference with the latter is, per KSR, a visit to Lexington is already pending.

Pope, Kentucky Pushing to Close Early on Paul Osaruyi
And by all means, the Big Blue Nation should be as excited about this one as ever, if not more so. Osaruyi comes in as the No. 8 player nationally, according to 247Sports, and his commitment would push Kentucky's class into overdrive.
At 6-foot-10, 220 lbs, he's a stock four-man that could likely slide into the five if the need presents itself. He's proven himself a defensive menace at Peach Jam with a natural ability to get up and throw down highlight-level dunks on a regular occasion.
He's got sticky hands and moves well for his size, too. Slotted in next to Hampton, who is also slippery and scores by creating his own shots, the Wildcats' early outlook for 2027-28 would likely be the most versatile in the Pope era.
The Cats obviously haven't won out here, with North Carolina also notably involved, but the energy is more than positive around Kentucky's efforts.
A Positive Energy in the Recruitment
“Been talking to Coach Mark Pope and Mo Williams," Osaruyi told KSR, "They’ve been trying to get me down there for a minute... They’re also trying to be a great mentor. Telling me what I got to do on the court. Just giving me feedback whenever I need it, criticism or whatever I need.”
Of his pending visit, Osaruyi said it's "locked in, for sure."
Hampton is already a strong start, no matter who Kentucky ends up returning from this year's team, but Osaruyi jumping into the mix would likely catapult the future Cats into early contention conversations.
