Mark Pope and Kentucky just made official, long-awaited headlines in relation to the NBA Draft, with hometown big and fan-favorite Malachi Moreno announcing his return to Lexington for a high-potential sophomore season. That alone was enough to relieve the ongoing stress of the Big Blue Nation this offseason.
But the Cats still have NIL money to spend, and a starting spot on the wing remains in apparent limbo. This is where star transfer and leading three-point shooter Milan Momcilovic comes in. Kentucky has already been in contact with Momcilovic, but if he, like Moreno, withdrawals from the draft, Cats fans can expect the Wildcats to continue to push the recruitment.
According to BigBlueDylan in an update on X, Kentucky recently held a follow-up Zoom meeting with the star transfer's representatives, signaling a continued, aggressive swing in his direction.
With two days remaining until the May 27 withdrawal deadline, Momcilovic's choice to potentially return to the collegiate level could soon be followed by the Cats' big-ticket offer. This recruitment is about to pick up one way or another, BBN.
Deadline Drawing Near
Moreno waited plenty long enough to make his decision, drawing it out until nearly the very end. In Momcilovic's case, though, the soon-to-be-senior has more on the line regarding his fate.

In his junior run with the Iowa State Cyclones, where Momcilovic has spent the entirety of his college career up to this point, the 6-foot-8 forward scored just south of 17 points per game and shot 48.7% from long range.
That's a country-leading clip that makes him indisputably one of the best shooters in college basketball. If he were to join Coach Pope's three-points-first offense, surrounded by playmakers on either side of his position, it's hard to imagine his numbers wouldn't at least continue, if not improve.
In the case of the latter, of course, his draft stock would also improve. That's a win-win, if you ask me.
A Win-Win Scenario
Momcilovic would also seem to be the final piece of Pope's third-year vision, at least as far as major contributors go. He's reportedly soak up every bit of the $5-6 million set aside for Tyran Stokes previously.
That may be a bitter exchange for some, but in my eyes, you're securing a proven elite scorer with money that was sent to be spent on a one-and-done freshman at the same position, anyway.
We can't get ahead of ourselves, BBN, but Kentucky is pushing hard for Momcilovic and is expected to be at the forefront of his recruitment if he decides to run it back for one more season. Now, we just have to wait two days (at the most) for him to make the call.
Wait as best you can and try not to bite your nails, Cats fans. This thing is about to pop either way.
