Kentucky football is set to bolster its wide receiver room with the addition of Clemson transfer Troy Stellato, a former four-star recruit and Top 300 player in his high school class. Known for his straight-line speed and polished route-running skills, Stellato brings both potential and experience to a Wildcats team in need of productive pass catchers.
A Revamped WR Room for 2025
The wide receiver room in Lexington looks completely different from a year ago. Several key players from last season have moved on, including Barion Brown, who took his talents to LSU, and Dane Key, who entered the transfer portal, landing at Nebraska. The departures left Kentucky in need of reinforcements, and head coach Mark Stoops has made it a priority to restock with talent.
Enter Stellato, who caught 39 passes for 337 yards and a touchdown in 2023 before following up with 25 receptions for 264 yards and another touchdown in 2024. While his production at Clemson didn’t set the world on fire, Stellato showed glimpses of the reliability and explosiveness that made him one of the top wide receiver prospects coming out of high school.
What Stellato Brings to Kentucky
Standing out in high school as a speedy, polished slot receiver, Stellato ran a verified 4.4 in the 40-yard dash and displayed a knack for converting short-to-intermediate routes into first downs. Andrew Ivins, 247Sports’ Director of Scouting, praised Stellato’s physical tools and ability to thrive in a spread offense. He noted Stellato’s straight-line speed, strong hands, and potential as a Power 5 starter with NFL aspirations.
Kentucky offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan will likely look to utilize Stellato’s skills in the short passing game, where he excels on slants, drags, and swing passes. While Stellato’s route tree may need some expansion, his willingness to block and work through traffic gives the Wildcats a reliable target as they aim to rebuild the passing attack. And again, focus on the blocking because that is what Stoops is keying in on. WRs that can block, so get ready to run.
Kentucky’s Need for Production
Stellato joins a wide receiver group that includes several other new faces from the transfer portal and incoming recruits. His experience in the ACC and his ability to step into a Power 5 starting role could make him a key piece for Kentucky as they seek to improve upon last year’s offensive struggles.
For Kentucky fans, Stellato’s potential offers hope for a revitalized passing game. If he can capitalize on his opportunities and develop further under Hamdan’s guidance, Stellato could become a key weapon in the Wildcats’ offense in 2025.
