Kentucky fans chant: "We want Sumrall" during Louisville blow out
By Mark Knight
Kentucky fans are sick and tired of this year's football team, which has fallen to 4-8 on the season and was blown out in the annual Governor's Cup to Louisville 41-14. During the game, fans were leaving in droves, many as early as the second quarter. They were disgusted, and the fans that remained started chanting, "WE WANT SUMRALL!"
Jon Sumrall is a former player for the University of Kentucky and even was on the coaching staff a few years ago. He is now the hottest name in coaching, bringing Troy to relevance and now Tulane in back-to-back years. He was able to get Tulane all the way up to 17th in the College Football Playoff rankings and will miss the playoffs, but he did all this in one season with a not elite or even great roster.
He's been rumored to many coaching searches, and Kentucky fans are sick of Mark Stoops and want him gone. Sumrall, being amazing and a rising coach in the college football world, has many Kentucky fans thinking they may miss out on a chance to catch one of the brightest young coaches in football.
Stoops is probably going nowhere unless he goes on his own because his buyout is enormous. It would cost the University of Kentucky $44 million to ask him to leave without cause. They simply can't afford that high of a buyout without some serious help. However, the Wildcats have been regressing, and now it seems as if they are as low as they can go, winning only one SEC game and getting smoked by their rival Louisville.
Big Blue Nation needs hope for the future, and there were some thoughts that true freshmen Cutter Boley and Jamarion Wilcox might be that hope. However, they combined for four total turnovers, and while Wilcox showed explosiveness, Boley showed a lack of confidence and ability. There is not much hope for Kentucky fans for the future.
