If you want to win football games in the SEC, it is all about getting the trenches right. You have to be able to attack the opposing quarterback, and you have to be able to protect your own.
Kentucky took a step in the latter direction today as class of 2027 interior offensive lineman Matthias Burrell commits to Kentucky football.
Blessed to announce my commitment to Kentucky! I want to thank my family and coaches who have been with me this far helping me work my way through this process and I thank coach Stein for believing in me. GO CATS😼😼😼 #BBN #Gocats pic.twitter.com/7NpDFEdFRX

Matthias Burrell becomes second offensive lineman to sign with Kentucky
Earlier this month, Brady Hull made it official and the 3-star lineman decided to stay home and play for Will Stein in Lexington. And now you can add another brick to the Big Blue Wall as 6'4 Matthias Burrell commits.
Burrell is currently not ranked by Rivals or 247 but his offer sheet is what you should be looking at.
Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Colorado, and yes, Louisville were all involved in the Gahanna Lincoln product.
That last team has a certain Big Dawg unhappy.
Vince Marrow loses an Ohio recruit to Kentucky
Vince Marrow patrolled the sideline for Kentucky, doing a little of everything for Mark Stoops. He then decided to join Jeff Brohm in Louisville. His primary recruiting focus has always been Kentucky and Ohio. And this is a direct shot at his ability to close out on a recruit.
To his credit, he has won some battles over Will Stein already, but Stein is proving it doesn't take a full season in charge to show recruits he means business.
The two teams will likely be locked in many recruiting battles over the years, and this is a good sign for a hungry Kentucky staff.
What's next?
Ultimately, recruiting is the lifeblood of any program, and Kentucky will not only need to land in the top 5 of the talented players they find themselves in, but they need to reel them in. Matthias Burrell is a long-term project that has all the tools needed to become a very successful SEC lineman.
Cutter Leftwich was involved in his recruitment, so that means the offensive line coach sees something in him. And that should excite everyone. Not every player is going to bring the massive fanfare or 5-star talent.
But programs are built on the backs of guys who commit to the vision, work their tails off, and become better than anyone projected them to be.
That is coaching, and that is effort. If the coaching is as good as the recruiting has been, this is a small step towards a huge success.
