After the unforgettable win over Santa Clara in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Kentucky now has another win in mind against No. 2 Iowa State. That's of course not going to be easy, but Mark Pope and Co. may not have to face an All-American playmaker.

Kentucky vs. Iowa State finals odds and a prediction

That's because in the first round, Iowa State big man Joshua Jefferson went down with a nasty-looking ankle injury - it has since been diagnosed as a low-ankle sprain. It was reported that Jefferson is unlikely to play, but the Cyclones also said there's a 'slim chance' he'll be ready to go. So, will he be in action vs. the Wildcats?

Iowa State vs. Kentucky injury report: Joshua Jefferson listed as questionable

All signs seem to be pointing in the direction that the Iowa State star will not be able to play, but he's been listed as questionable to take the hardwood. That tells us that he's doing everything in his power to lace up his sneakers and go to battle with his teammates.

However, head coach T.J. Otzelberger is also not going to rush him back too soon. Leading up to tipoff, we should have a more definitive answer on Jefferson's status. Regardless of if he plays or not, Kentucky needs to be at its best if it wants to move on to the Sweet 16.

Let's be real here, Kentucky is incredibly lucky to be playing on Sunday as it is. In the win over Santa Clara, the Wildcats and Pope needed a prayer from Otega Oweh to fall in order for the season not to end. Had Oweh not made that game-tying 3-pointer to force overtime, we'd probably be talking about whether or not Pope should be fired.

Despite that, Kentucky has been given new March Madness life and the hope is this team will be ready to take advantage of that. UK is the underdog by 4.5 points and taking down the Cyclones is not going to be easy. If Jefferson doesn't play, though, then Kentucky's climb in trying to post an upset will be made less difficult.
