Haminn Quaintance wants 'all the smoke' with Kentucky fans over Jayden’s injury

Haminn Quaintance defended his son on social media Saturday, detailing the grueling rehab process Jayden has faced after a devastating knee injury.

What was supposed to be a season of dominance for Jayden Quaintance has devolved into a digital war of words. As of right now, he isn't even practicing.

Before the season tipped off, most NBA mock drafts had the Kentucky sophomore firmly in the top 10. But after an explosive freshman class, led by AJ Dybantsa, Cam Boozer, Darryn Peterson, and more, reshaped the lottery, Quaintance has seen his stock plummet.

On Saturday, CBS writer Kyle Boone released a new mock draft that sent Big Blue Nation into a frenzy.

Boone has Quaintance falling all the way to No. 29. "It's turned into a lost season at Kentucky for Quaintance," Boone wrote. "I'd be a bit surprised if he didn't come back to school."

Haminn Quaintance says son Jayden has something in store for NBA Draft doubters

The reaction from Jayden’s father, Haminn Quaintance, was immediate. "He will definitely be surprised," Haminn posted, quoting the article.

This wasn't the first time Jayden Quaintance's dad had something to say about the way his son was being used. Right before being shut down with knee swelling, Haminn took to social media to question the way his son was being used.

But the real "smoke" tonight, started when fans began questioning Jayden’s desire to compete.

'Whatever frustration u think u got... multiply that by a thousand'

The reality of Jayden's situation is brutal. He isn't just "sore." He is recovering from a torn ACL, a torn meniscus, and a related fracture. While fans pointed to Caleb Wilson returning from a hand injury in five games, the comparison is nonexistent for a big man who relies on elite athleticism.

When one fan suggested Jayden was "refusing" to play, Haminn didn't hold back.

"Yall just push any narrative and run with," Haminn posted. "We fought against staff to come back the St. John's game early... He had some swelling and was pulled by UK medical staff. He has being doing everything to get it out."

The defense of his son got even more personal as the night went on.

"He dont go out. dont hang out. All he do is ice and rehab 24/7," Haminn continued. "And if any of yall grown (expletive) men got any frustrations with my 18 yr old son... come see me im always around and want all the smoke."

Kentucky dad chooses NBA hopes over reality reminding some of LaVar Ballla

As the tweets flew, some fans began to worry about the optics.

One fan posted: "NBA teams are wary of another Lonzo Ball type situation... Way to burn this bridge for your son bozo."

It’s a fair point, even if it's a harsh one. NBA front offices do take notice when parents become the primary voice of a prospect. Just look at what happened with LaVar Ball. He came out and declined multi-million dollar shoe deals, told people his sons were all going to be billionaires. And was a large part of the reason the Lakers traded Lonzo Ball.

In some people's eyes, Haminn is just being a protective father. In others, he’s creating a "distraction" label that could further impact Jayden’s draft slot.

Haminn, however, remained unfazed, even taking a shot at one fan’s own athletic past: "My son was playing college ball at the same age u were getting cut from your JV team in high school."

The reality? I really believe Jayden Quaintance would likely benefit immensely from another year in college.

The road ahead for Kentucky basketball and Jayden Quaintance

Coming back would allow him to prove his health, showcase a developed mid-range game, and remind the league of his freakish athleticism across a full 40-game slate. But after tonight's fireworks, it feels more likely that JQ is headed for the professional ranks regardless of where the mock drafts have him.

Some believe this public friction is why Kentucky struggles with some top recruits. They fear the "vocal minority" of the fanbase. But for most of BBN, the frustration comes from a place of wanting to see a special talent succeed in blue and white. I know the love these guys get far outweighs the negativity. I really don't think it should impact their choice at all, but I am not an 18-year-old high school kid.

It’s a wild world where parents and fans duel on X over an 18-year-old’s knee swelling. But in Lexington, that’s just another Saturday night.
