Mark Pope is a man of the people. Buying ice cream for fans, surprising season ticket holders on a regular basis, and, of course, hitting the road to build an elite recruiting class are all in a day's work for Kentucky Basketball's head coach. And this past week may have been his busiest recruiting run ever.
We're here to collect all the news into one bubble for those of the Big Blue Nation that may have missed a piece here and there. Life moves fast, Kentucky fans, and somehow basketball moves faster.
Let's crack this thing open.
Mark Pope's Multi-Class Recruiting Spree
Up first, Mark Pope offered the No. 2 player in the class of 2028, forward Colton Hiller, which he then followed up with another top-five 2028 prospect in center Bamba Touray. All the while the Cats are making a serious push for five-star guard Reese Alston, pairing that interest with offers extended to Howard Williams, Brady Pettigrew, and Evan Willis. Every one of these guys is worth noting.
2028 is shaping up to be another loaded pool of talent. Touray is a young big from Senegal and, at 7-foot already, has all the potential in the world. He'll need to fill out and get better defensively, but Touray has solid handles and a workable jumper for his size.
Hiller, on the other hand, is a typical 6-foot-6 wing who has best-in-class scoring ability at all three levels. He has all the tools to be the best player in this class, evidenced by his early climb to the silver-medal spot.
That class also has Pettigrew, who led the 16U in scoring at Peach Jam by averaging 23.6 points - not too shabby for a four-star recruit. That group is rounded out with five-star, 6-foot-7 high-flyer Evan Willis.
Hailing from the same state as former Kentucky player Collin Chandler, in Utah, he's about as opposite to Chandler as can be. Willis is taller, more defensive-minded, and much less of a three-point threat at this stage of his development. But he can jump out the gym, and his midrange game is elite. All of those dudes are potential Cats down the line.
Kentucky's More Immediate Focus
More immediately, Alston (2027), is the son of former NBA and streetball legend Rafer Alston and is the third-ranked point guard in next year's class. Alongside Louisville, Pope has entered serious contention for the shifty playmaking guard. His potential to reclassify has his recruitment a bit up in the air, for the time being.
Joining Alston on the offer list in 2027 is top-50 wing Howard Williams. Pope watched Williams at the Puma PRO16 circuit last week, which led to Mo Williams extended the offer to the forward on Tuesday. This is just scratching the surface of an offseason that continues to stun on a daily basis.
Expect endless offers to flow in as the summer ball season begins to wind down. We're likely a long way off from any kind of commitment here but, with Mo Williams' magic touch, let's hope the Cats get on the board with another big fish that can join five-star Ryan Hampton ahead of time.
