Alex Wilkins delivers the confident message that Kentucky fans have been wishing for

Big Blue Nation, we've got a certified dog leading the way as a Wildcat this coming season for Kentucky.

There exists an extremely fine line between confidence and arrogance. I won't point any fingers specifically, but it's more than safe to say that Kentucky fans were aggravated last season when, amidst that team's ongoing energy and chemistry struggles, the team's "touch money" huddle routine hit the scene on social media.

Big Blue Nation keeps a close eye on their guys. That's just part of the deal in Lexington.

This coming campaign, though, is already exhibiting early signs of a product more committed to winning basketball games. Not only is Mark Pope going to extreme lengths to make sure that this team is as close-knit as possible when tipoff comes in the fall, but transfer guard Alex Wilkins, just one day into summer practice, is dropping passionate quotes on his style of play.

Per Tres Terrell on X, Wilkins, on what he wants the BBN to know about him, said: "I'm a team guy. I just want to win. I'm here to win. I'm excited to win. So, I'm just a winner."

Win, win, win, winner. That's four mentions of the most important word in the game in just five sentences. Cats fans, we may have a dog posing as a Wildcat this season. This is the attitude Rupp Arena has been wishing for.

Alex Wilkins' Winning Attitude

As a freshman, Alex Wilkins was, in fact, a winner. In his first year with the Furman Paladins, the high-scoring guard led that school to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2023. As a No. 15 seed, the Paladins fell just 11 points short to No. 2 UConn in the first round.

Wilkins, against top-level competition, posted 21 points, four assists, and one steal on 50% shooting from long range. That's a guy just waiting for a shot at a higher level of hoops, and he got exactly that with Kentucky.

Now, he'll trade his purple uniform in for a blue one to be paired with fellow transfer guard Zoom Diallo in an expectedly explosive backcourt. If Wilkins can come even close to his 17.8-point, 4.7-assist averages from the 2025-26 season, Cats fans will be thrilled with his addition.

A potential complication could arise in Wilkins being one of the youngest players on Kentucky's roster, entering just his second year in college hoops and preparing to play in one of the toughest conferences in the country. His leap is a double-edged sword in that way.

Although until the games begin in November, we'll be more than satisfied with one of our Wildcats dropping lines like these either way. Wilkins is already talking the talk, if you will.
