Mark Pope has a lot of work to do beyond simply putting a team together ahead of his pivotal third year in Lexington, but it's hard to imagine Kentucky being in a better position than they are right now given their consistent recruiting struggles earlier in the offseason.

Five-star transfer forward Milan Momcilovic, arguably the best long-ball shooter in the nation, basically brought the current roster together into final form. His additions rounds off a series of pickups focused on playmaking and scoring, the likes of which Kentucky lacked last year.

But beyond the team itself, Pope will take a unique approach to team-building and chemistry that, hopefully, puts this squad over the top when it comes time for tipoff in the fall.

In a clip from Coach Pope's recent interview with UK Sports Network, posted by Chris Beasmore on X, our guy broke down the process and what he wants to get out of his blue and white team this summer.

It's a little bit of a new experience for some of these guys," he continued, "they're gonna get to know each other in all the ways they want to know each other, and all the ways they don't want to know each other."

Kentucky's team last season was consistently criticized for an apparent lack of chemistry and, at times, clear lack of care on the floor. It hampered that group's potential and, alongside injuries, ultimately led to an early exit in the NCAA Tournament.

Coach Pope is doing all he can to ensure the 2026-27 roster doesn't suffer the same fate, at least on the former front.

Avoiding a Chemistry Issue

The BBN can certainly, though not fondly, recall the team's blowout loss to Gonzaga in Nashville last December. A dominately blue crowd jeered a Kentucky team that had just been beaten 94-59. At that point, a postseason berth at all appeared like a long shot.

Mark Pope's third team has all the potential to go on a redemptive run in Lexington, and Pope himself is taking extremely early steps to make sure that this group meshes together far before it really counts.

We should be getting exciting summer practice footage soon and, at least to some extent, we'll then be able to tell how these Ca
