Three reasons to be excited about Cam’Ron Fletcher

Possible Two/Three-Year Player
If there’s one advantage to picking up a lower-ranked recruit (I’m talking four-star dudes ranked in the 40s, so still elite players), it’s that, generally, they stay in college longer. That narrative has failed to hold up at Kentucky over the past decade because guys generally arrive on campus with the mindset that they’ll be first-round picks by the end of the season. What’s crazy is that, usually, they do (insert SGA & Herro callback).
I wouldn’t assign such lofty expectations to my man Fletch. A minute ago I discussed the avenue for him developing into a lottery pick athletic phenom who can play three positions and dunk from the three-point line. That’d be awesome! But it’s an unlikely destination after just one season at UK. His game lacks polish and certain, identifiable skills aside from dunking and euro-stepping (look, his euro step can steal girlfriends–it’s soooooo smooth).
A jumper would be a nice start–because everyone needs one of those to succeed in the NBA without being seven-foot-two. Maybe even throw in a teaspoon of basketball IQ. Or let’s really stir the pot and add some passing instinct. Now that we’ve got an NBA All-Star potpourri brewing, how ’bout some mad defensive competitiveness. That’s a heck of a dish. Pour it into Fletch’s bowl of athleticism and add a garnish called “Twitter Personality” and that’s an NBA superstar.
Clearly, there’s a while to go until Cam’Ron Fletcher blends those ingredients. And, as I mentioned a minute ago, his freshman year would coincide with the 2021 NBA Draft. Columnists are already writing about its mystique and intrigue. Why? Because it’s the storied “Double Draft.” When the ban on 18-year-olds entering the draft is lifted and both the 2020 and 2021 recruiting classes are eligible for the same draft. Two years of elite players in one draft? Oh, my.
SO, Fletch would probably maximize his draft position in the 2022 draft (or whichever isn’t the double draft). I hope he’s around for a few seasons because I think the kid can develop into something special. I also hope Cam’Ron Fletcher goes scorched Earth his freshman year and gets picked no. 1 in 2021. Either way, I’m excited to see what Vincent does with his canvas.
