3. Call the timeout, Cal

This is not an attempt to bash John Calipari. But Coach Cal has failed to call these kind of timeouts game after game. This cannot be used as a teaching moment for the next game. THIS IS THE NCAA TOURNAMENT!

In a win or go home situation, Calipari must do everything he can to win the game. The ill-advised shot Quade Green took is exactly the type of shot calling a timeout avoids. It was very disappointing to watch UK play on their own and take the shot they ultimately took.

Equally as disappointing is that Calipari has said before that with young teams, he needs to use more timeouts. When given the perfect opportunity to follow up on his word, he didn’t. One good possession here, one good luck or one good drive could win the game. This team has NOT played well enough throughout the year to “play through” this possession. Calipari, more than the Kentucky basketball players, needs to learn and improve from this mistake.
