5. Going after Quade

One area for concern after the semi-final game was Quade Green on defense. Green has been MUCH improved on the defensive end as the season has progressed. However, Alabama straight up went after Quade yesterday in the post. Whichever Alabama player Quade was guarding ended up playing on the block, posting Quade up.

Coach Avery Johnson really looked to use Green’s size as a disadvantage for Kentucky. This is a problem because teams like Tennessee can also attempt to do this. If teams do this in the NCAA Tournament, look for Calipari to use the 2-3 zone more often when Quade is in.

If opposing teams have this mis-match idea in their game-plan, it can be very difficult to stop. The Cats need Quade in the game for his ball-handling and shooting abilities. But Quade cannot be a liability on defense, so the Cats have to be ready to adjust.
