5. Calipari’s recent “tweak”

Over the next few weeks, BBN will be debating what Calipari’s new “tweak” is with this team. Coach Cal announced yesterday that he has tweaked Kentucky’s offense, similar to years past, and now Big Blue Nation will attempt to identify what Cal has done. Twitter, Facebook and online message boards all across the Bluegrass State will debate, discuss, and evaluate this new tweak. Here are some possibilities to get the discussion started:

First, simply letting Kevin Knox play to his natural strengths. Earlier this season, Calipari really wanted Knox to attack the paint, attack the basket. This rarely resulted in good offensive possessions from the Cats. However, against Mississippi State, Knox was a threatening, consistent shooter. He looked comfortable, and he was effective. Maybe Calipari tweaked the offense by telling Knox he is now a shooter first, passer second, and driver third?

Second, a return of the more traditional style of Calipari dribble-drive motion offense. There were several possessions when the Kentucky basketball team attacked MSU off the dribble. They were utilizing dribble weaves, dribble hand-offs, and “rub screens” on drives. This style of offense was successful with the John Wall team of 2010, the Brandon Knight team of 2011, and the 2012 National Championship team. Maybe Calipari is looking to return to more possessions of the traditional dribble-drive with this year’s team? Let the debate begin!
