Kyle Macy transferred to Kentucky from Purdue University in 1977. In his first season at Kentucky, led Kentucky to the National Title game against the Duke Blue Devils. The Cats won the National Championship 94-88. Macy finished with just nine points but dished out eight assists. He averaged 15.5 points per game on the season.

The next season, Kyle Macy led the team with 15.2 points per game. Although the Wildcats were defeated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by Clemson.

Kyle Macy led his team again in scoring the following season. The 1979-1980 Wildcats were bumped from the NCAA Tournament by the Duke Blue Devils in a one point defeat 55-54.
