Kentucky Basketball: Is John Calipari on the way out?
No one wants to think about the possibility of John Calipari leaving the Kentucky Basketball program.
Apparently, there are reports surfacing that John Calipari has contacted the New York Knicks about a Phil Jackson’s vacant job. Jackson was the President of Basketball Operations and now the Kentucky Basketball head man is reportedly expressing his interest in the job.
The original report was sent out via Twitter by ESPN’s Ian Begley. Read the full report HERE.
Begley sites ESPN league sources in the report that John Calipari had reach out to the Knicks through intermediaries to express his interest in becoming the Knicks next president of basketball operations.
Begley goes on to cite that the Knicks are not currently interested in John Calipari. But, who knows that the Knicks are doing these days.
John Calipari
John Calipari is no stranger to NBA rumors. Just about every offseason has plenty of “Calipari to the NBA” news. Also, Calipari has turned down plenty of offers including one to coach LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
At Kentucky, John Calipari is pretty much the top of the food chain. Kentucky Basketball fans are a unique breed of human. Catching word of something like this will spread like wildfire. Unfortunately, there is no avoiding the Calipari rumors because he is definitely a hot commodity.
Calipari has some things going for him though. He pretty much gets what he wants. Also, he is the head cheese of the greatest basketball empire in college hoops. Another entity in the belt of achievements is that he is now getting his foot in the door of USA Basketball. By coaching the U19 team, John Calipari gets his recruiting advantage. He also gets to showcase his ability to coach superstar players outside of Lexington.

The NBA is enticing for many college coaches. But, Calipari has been there and done that. He fits in perfectly at Kentucky. John has his connections with the NBA already. The NBA is basically made up of Kentucky players anyway (Haha). His son is now at Kentucky, he is basically a rock star and the Big Blue Nation worships the ground he walks on.
