Report: Kentucky Basketball guard Dominique Hawkins will play Summer League with Sacramento Kings
Dominique Hawkins went undrafted in the 2017 NBA Draft. The Kentucky Basketball fan favorite is getting his chance.
Kentucky Basketball guard Dominique Hawkins is reportedly getting his chance at an NBA career with the Sacramento Kings.
The Richmond, Kentucky native became a unique phenomenon for the Kentucky Wildcats.
Hawkins was warranted limited playing time in his career. No one really expected for him to be drafted but now, he’s getting his shot.
Kieth Farmer of LEX18 out of Lexington tweeted late Friday night the news. It has been confirmed by Fletcher Page of the Louisville Courier Journal.
The Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings left the NBA Draft as one of the big winners. After taking De’Aaron Fox with the fifth overall pick, the Kings racked up with blue blood talent.
North Carolina’s Justin Jackson is also headed to Sacramento. Additionally, Duke’s Harry Giles and Kansas’ Frank Mason III were also selected by the Kings. In an unbelievable draft class, Hawkins joins a gauntlet of Guards.
Dominique has shown that he can play with the best. Late in the season, Kentucky relied on Hawkins to provide defensive intensity and a spark of offense at times. Also, the Big Blue Nation takes care of their own. When he scored, the crowd got behind the whole team.
Dom will join a Kings organization in the summer league. This doesn’t guarantee him a roster spot. But, it just may give him the attention he needs to get him noticed by other organizations. Whether it’s in the NBA or the newly renamed G-League, Hawkins will surely find himself as a professional basketball player at the end of the summer.
Next: The All-Kentucky NBA team that would win the NBA Finals
Hawkins impressed many with his pre-draft workouts. The Kings were one of those teams in which he worked out for. Other teams have him on their radar as well.
The whole state of Kentucky is behind our Wildcats, but Hawkins may have the biggest win behind in his sails.
