The Kentucky Baseball Wildcats face off against the South Carolina Gamecocks for the second time in an elimination game of the SEC Baseball tournament.

The Kentucky Baseball Wildcats are looking to rebound from their 10-0 run-ruled shortened game to LSU last night. This will be a rematch from the second round when the Wildcats rolled past the Gamecocks 7-2.

The Wildcats are currently 3-1 this year against the Gamecocks. Taking two of three from the Gamecocks earlier this season. The Wildcats have dominated the series this season out scoring South Carolina 36-12 in the four games.

South Carolina will be sending sophomore RHP Adam Hill to the mound later this afternoon. Hill is only 3-6 on the season but sports a 3.30 ERA on the season with 81 strikeouts and 36 walks.

Hill was on the mound earlier this for South Carolina’s only win over the Kentucky Wildcats. In that game Hill went five innings giving up only one run on one hit while walking three, striking out five and hitting two batters in a 5-1 win.

The Wildcats will be sending Justin Lewis (6-3, 3.50) to the mound in the elimination game. Lewis has racked up 61 strikeouts to 20 walks in 79 2/3 innings so far this year. Kentucky will be looking for a better effort this time around as Lewis gave up four runs, all earned, on seven hits while striking out four.

What’s on the Line?

First and foremost a win and Kentucky will advance to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament while a loss will knock them out. Ending the possibility of Kentucky winning their first SEC Tournament in school history.

More from Wildcat Blue Nation

More importantly a loss would almost assuredly prevent them from gaining a national seed. Kentucky has locked up a regional site host bid. A national seed however ensures Kentucky home field advantage until the College World Series in Omaha.

Kentucky sits at 39-19 overall but is 27-5 at home while just 11-12 on the road.
