Former Kentucky Basketball guard, Devin Booker etched his name in the history books last night with one of the greatest performances in history.

For a second-year player, whom, might I add, isn’t even 21 years old yet, Devin Booker is making his mark in the League. The former Kentucky Basketball star has himself quite the night.

Going up against the second seeded Boston Celtics from the Eastern Conference, Booker was guarded by the likes of two upper-echelon perimeter defenders in Avery Bradley and Jae Crowder, making the 70 points scored by the former Kentucky star that much more admirable.

On a night where Booker only hit 4 three pointers (only 36 percent from beyond the arc), he found other ways to put the ball in the basket, scoring 24 from the free throw line (shooting 92 percent from the line) as well as hitting mid-range jumpers and getting to the basket with ease (21/40 from the field, 53 percent). The eight rebounds and six assists were impressive stats to add to an already staggering stat line, demonstrating his ability to make his teammates better as well.

A Future Star

Averaging just shy of 21 points per game, Booker is an emerging elite level shooting guard in the NBA, and the Suns will definitely be looking to build their franchise around this budding superstar. His ability to score from everywhere on the court has helped him define his game as more than just a 3-point specialist. He has elevated his game in his second season in the NBA, and he shows no signs of slowing down.

Despite Devin Booker’s heroics, the Suns suffered their 51st lost of the season, as they continue to be one of the worst teams in the Western Conference. This should not take away from Booker’s tremendous night, but instead should be a bright spot in an otherwise poor season. The Suns are in rebuild mode, looking to continue to build their young franchise back to their early 2000s way.

With his performance, Booker joined the likes of Kobe Bryant and David Robinson as the sixth different player to reach the 70-point mark. Left and right, former Kentucky players from the Calipari Era have been making their marks in NBA history, with Booker’s performance being the latest. Things are looking up for the future of the NBA, with former Wildcats leading the charge.
