As Kentucky Basketball gears up for the SEC Tournament, the SEC Post-Season awards have been announced.
Kentucky Basketball has finished the regular season on an eight game winning streak. John Calipari’s squad has won a few of those games in close quarters fashion. Even against inferior talented teams, Kentucky seems to play down to their competition. On the other hand, a lot of bright spots have come from this season.
First Team All-SEC
The SEC released their official all-conference team and awards as voted on by the coaches. Here are the names of the 2017 Men’s All-SEC squad:
- G, KeVaughn Allen, So.- Florida
- G, J.J. Frazier, Sr.- Georgia
- PF, Yante Maten, Jr.- Georgia
- PG, De’Aaron Fox, Fr.- Kentucky
- SG, Malik Monk, Fr.- Kentucky
- F, Sebastian Saiz, Sr.- Ole Miss
- G, Sindarius Thornwell, Sr.- South Carolina (POY)
- F, Luke Kornet, Sr.- Vanderbilt
Bam Adebayo Finishes as Second Team All-SEC
The freshman from North Carolina has finished strong in his efforts during the Cats’ late season push. However, his performances were squandered at times throughout the season. There are a handful of games in which Adebayo failed to score more than 10 points. His rebounding has kept Kentucky alive as of late. Bam’s inconsistency in the heart of the season is probably one of the reasons he was left off of the first team. Bam averaged 13.3 PPG and 7.6 RPG in the regular season.
The SEC decided with Luke Kornet, the sharpshooting seven-footer from Vanderbilt as well as Yante Maten. Maten, Mark Fox’s future pro at Georgia has had one incredible season. The Georgia star injured his knee against Kentucky in Athens. Maten has not stepped into another game since. That may change come tournament time SEC All-Freshman Team
Honestly, this is a no brainer. Malik Monk, De’Aaron Fox as well as Bam Adebayo find their name on the SEC All-Freshman Team as well. John Calipari has had his run of freshman in his day at Kentucky. This is nothing new when it comes to Calipari coached teams.
