The University of Kentucky fan base, otherwise known as Big Blue Nation (BBN), has been nominated by FanSided as one of the top 250 fan bases in the world. Let the debate ensue in Fandom 250.

The final results will be announced on Dec. 6 through the FanSided network.

“Three of college basketball’s most iconic and popular teams made the list: Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina,” the release proclaims. “All three schools are rich in college basketball history and are considered the premier teams, with devoted followings. Duke and North Carolina fans are often on display during their ‘Tobacco Road Rivalry.’”

Uh, for real? While BBN will no doubt appreciate being listed among the “most iconic” in the game, being grouped with Carolina and Duke is not what we expect. Let me be clear: Eight National Championships, 17 Final Fours, 47 SEC Championships, 29 SEC Tournament Championships and the most wins in the history of college basketball.

More from Kentucky basketball

There is no other basketball program that compares to the University of Kentucky. There is simply Kentucky, and then everyone else. That history has bred an absolute cult following of the most passionate, knowledgeable, die-hard fans in all the sport. To compare BBN to Tobacco Road, or anywhere else, is laughable at best, offensive in its lack of understanding of the history of this great game at its worst.

Yet, it’s still fun. And while the rest of the world will make its argument as the greatest, here in the Bluegrass and beyond we know the deal—BBN rules college basketball! So follow the polling on Twitter and Facebook, at #Fanddom250, and make your voice heard BBN! And let the drive for #9 continue – Go Cats!
