2015-16 Kentucky football season at Commonwealth Stadium. Today was media day, where coaches and players got to have their brains picked by media members. Here is what I felt necessary to share with the fans.

First, the negatives

  • Therrell Gosier is not going to make it to Kentucky. There was no given reason, short and simple, he’s not on the team.
  • Nick Richardson is no longer with Kentucky. Again, no given explanation, simple stated that he is no longer with the team.
  • Levon Livingston is still working through things to be apart of the team this season, but he may not be seen this season. Another short and simple statement with lack of explanation.
  • Jovan Provitt isn’t going to make it to Kentucky. I bet you can guess, no reason given either.
  • Nebraska transfers, Courtney Love and Greg Hart, have yet to be 100% cleared to play, still waiting for the word, but Stoops seemed optimistic.
  • Reese Phillips still isn’t 100% from injury, cannot be played in live game practices for a while.

Now that that’s out of the way, here are the good things to come from media day.

  • Commonwealth Stadium will be complete by September 5
  • Stoops likes how the players are looking right now. No one missed a summer workout, can see changes in their bodies.
  • “Vast improvement” to inside linebackers should be seen this season.
  • Stoops feels really good about the quarterback position. Starting quarterback has yet to be decided, Patrick Towles has improved and has done everything asked of him and Drew Barker is maturing and doing the same, “more of a compliment to Drew than a down to Patrick” according to Stoops.
  • Stoops is putting pressure on all of the players to improve and he sees that they’re doing so.
  • “We are an improved football team”- Mark Stoops
  • D.J. Eliot is focusing on depth at positions and feels comfortable with what he’s doing than years past.
  • Junior College transfers bring in extra experience, feels good about the ones he brought in.
  • Shannon Dawson, the new offensive coordinator, is a character and what the offense needs. He will add personality to the field and drag the personalities out of the players. He may be the key to success this season. Had the media laughing quite a bit.

There is a lot to be excited about with the rise of Kentucky Football. This year should be a great year for the Wildcats and an exciting one for the fans.
